Mrugavani National Park - Andhra Pradesh
is situated in Chilkur in Moinabad Mandal,
Hyderabad in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The
park is located near Andhra Pradesh Police
Academy and is spread over an area of about 9.1
km2.
About the park
The national park was established in October
1994 about 25 km away from the Hyderabad city.
The variety of indigenous fauna and flora
species of the region convinced the state
government to confer it the national park
status.
Flora
The prime vegetation cover of the park is
dry-tropical type mixed with patches of
grasslands and woodlands. More than 600 species
of plant can be found here. The important trees
here are Neem, Bamboo, Sandalwood, Rela, Teak
and Picus. Shrubs and climbers are also found in
certain areas of the park.
Fauna
Black-naped hares, Wild boars, Mongoose Monitor
Lizard, Civet Cat, Cheetal, Jungle Cat, Sambar,
Cobra, South-Indian Rock Agama, Oriental Garden
Lizard, Russell Viper, Python, etc. are
prominent faunas of the park.
Avian-fauna
Mrugavani National Park is home to almost 100
types of bird species. Some of the important
avian-fauna species here include Flower Peckers,
Peacocks, Warblers, Lapwings, Jungle Babblers,
Ducks, Quails, Indian Robin, Purple Sunbird,
Myna and many more.
How to get there
The closest railhead and airport is located at
Hyderabad city. From Hyderabad one can hire a
cab or a bus to reach the park.
General information
Accommodation is available in the dormitories,
cottages and tents located inside the park with
prior bookings. Different activities such as
nature trails, safari drives, snake shows, etc.
are organized for the tourists for heightening
their excitements. The tourists can also visit
the watch towers located at different quarters
of the park to have a panoramic view of the
wildlife.
