Last year, in
the month of December, I went to Shimla with my
parents. One of my father's friend also went
with us along with his family. We went there by
Kalka Mail. Our train departed from the Howrah
Station at 7.40 p.m. We reached Kalka about 5.30
a.m. From there we took a toy train to Shimla.
The journey by the toy train was quite
thrilling. The train went through 108 tunnels.
Oh, what a ride we had! At about 11 a.m. in the
morning we reached the Shimla station. It was a
beautiful station. Our driver was waiting
outside the station for us. He drove us to our
hotel. We were very tired because of the long
train journey, so that day we rested in the
hotel.
The next day early in the morning we went to
Kalpa and stayed there for two nights. It was a
very beautiful place. Our hotel was surrounded
by apple orchards. We had a very clear view of
snow-capped mountains from our hotel. Then the
next day we went to Kaza. This place is referred
to as mini Afghanistan. The mountains there were
very steep and dangerous to climb. Even the road
route to that place was precariously dangerous.
Never mind, we took all that in our stride.
Every journey teaches us something important in
life! We stayed there for two nights and then
went to Manali. Manali is a very wonderful
place. We enjoyed the rest of our stay there for
about four days. After that, we went to Kullu,
where there was the pashmina shawl factory. The
pashmina shawl is famous all over the world.
Then from Kullu we came back to New Delhi by car
and finally by train back to Kolkata.
It was truly a memorable trip I ever had.
